Best Simple Minds Songs

I posted a commentary on the top ten best Simple Minds songs. Go beyond the Breakfast Club movie and “Don’t You Forget About Me” which, incidentally, Simple Minds didn’t even write the lyrics for nor like that much, supposedly, though Jim Kerr did add in the “la-la-la-la” refrain that makes the song better.

God’s Beautiful Daughters

For all girls and women:
You are beautiful. You are beautiful because our Father created you so, in the image of the Holy Trinity. You are a daughter of the Queen of Heaven, which makes you a princess of Heaven.
If you think you are ugly because people have told you so, don’t believe them. [...]

Wulfric Grows More

Robert’s puppy Wulfric is growing like a weed! He looks about half of Kieran’s size now, and he’s a lot more agile than he was when I last saw him.

I gave them some bones today and they happily munched down on them. And you should see how fast they put away their dog [...]

The R Is in Town

My old roommate and good friend, Robert, is in town. He is “the R”, and he has brought his dogs, Kieran and Wulfric (the Wild). Wulfric has grown a good bit he tells me, so I will take some more pictures and post them up tomorrow probably.
The G, the R, and I all [...]

All Your Nydus Canal Are Belong to Us

I got the nydus canal algorithm working in Crescendo!
What the heck is a nydus canal, you ask? Well, no time to explain it all, but it is a Zerg building in the massively popular RTS game, Starcraft. It works like a teleporter, such that units that go in through one nydus canal come [...]

Work Blogging

I have a blog at the place I work, internal to the company, which I post on occasionally. Well, a few days ago I made a somewhat bold post that caused some talk and got the attention of senior management.
I became worried about it yesterday when I realized that I might have made an [...]

If I Ever Get a Dog…

I’m getting a Bouvier des Flandres. Via, mum2twelve, she tells the story of their dog of this breed protecting their children without any command nor training. How cool!
You know, a dog might be just the thing to meet my future wife as well….. I can hear it now as I walk with [...]

Adoration Article

I was brainstorming in adoration today about what I could do to invite more people to sign up for adoration and come and adore Jesus regularly, and the thought occurred to me: “Why not write an article for our parish’s newletter/publication, the Spirit of St. Louis?”.
So I called the church and spoke with Evelyn, [...]

But Will You Catch My Fall?

“From lost and not found,
to run and not hide,
my hand inside of your hand”
– Jars of Clay, “Hand”
After Mass this morning, I gave my friend Jeff a call, and he invited me to come over and hang out with him and his famiy. I enjoy spending time with them, so I went over, remembering [...]

Touching Tribute

When I was a freshman in high school, I visited Arlington National Cemetery. I remember watching the solemn ceremony of the changing of the guard at the tomb of the unknown soldier. I’ve always been drawn to military memorials - it has something to do with the camraderie of the veterans. The bonding that occurs [...]

My Sister in the Far East

My sister, Heather, has lived in the Far East for the past 4.5 years. She is the most adventurous out of all my family by far. In about a month, my mom and I are going on vacation to visit her for a few weeks in Thailand. It’s been a long since [...]

Another Danielle Bean Winner: Papa

Danielle Bean has a touching and thought-provoking post about how parents are their children’s first impressions and images of God. How’s that for an honor!

Wanderings About the Holy Spirit

I had a good conversation with my friends on Sunday about the Holy Spirit. We talked about praying in tongues, prophesying in tongues, and interior illuminations from the Holy Spirit. Even as an Evangelical Protestant, I was skeptical of people praying or speaking in tongues. By this I mean uttering unintelligible sounds [...]

Crescendo Critters

I got The Root creating a critter and a tree! The tan-colored circle above the green one is an Oak Tree that The Root has created, and the light blue circle is a Squirrel.

Currently all they do is sit there, which isn’t very interesting, but just think about what happens when you get Squirrels [...]

Fixing My Dented and Scratched Door, Phase 3: As Good As New…Sort of

I painted my dented, scratched, and rusted car door a few days back as part of my first car repair project.
The good news: I saved 98% of what it would have cost me had I taken it into the shop ($1,000 versus $25).
The bad news: It is pretty obvious that I fixed it [...]

Adoration Meeting

We met with our pastor today to discuss Perpetual Adoration plans. Overall, the meeting was good. I was disappointed because my hope for having a St. Joseph statue in the chapel was rejected. I still have one avenue I want to consider taking to see if the statue is a possibility, but [...]

Crescendo Terrain

I worked for about two hours tonight on my new game, and I got the first rudimentary terrain displayed! I am embarrassed to say that it took me a long time to figure out how to do the two-dimensional array of terrain interface pointers. That stuff should be so simple, but [...]

Adoration Challenges

I help coordinate adoration at St. Louis parish, and today I filled in for one our adorers who couldn’t make it. One thing I have felt frustrated about is how few people we have on our schedule. St. Louis has something like 4,500 families, and yet we have only 50 people who [...]
