I enjoy trying my hand at movie reviews from time to time, and the more I do it the more I realize how good Steven Greydanus at decentfilms.com is at writing them. Read on for my review…
Yesterday, my coworkers and I went to watch X-Men III, the Last Stand. Overall, I enjoyed the movie, mainly because it was a continuation of the X-Men characters that I find intriguing, so even though it fell short of the first two movies by a big margin, just putting Wolverine on the screen is entertaining for me, so I recommend it.
Â
There were a number of things I found disagreeable, including:
- Two main good guy characters get killed off, yet because of the way it happens, I didn’t even care.
- Beast is introduced as a good guy but just looks weird and talks for the entire movie before finally fighting some at the end.
- Nightcrawler—the religious blue lizard-guy from the second movie—is non-existent; they just left him out without a word about him. This omission stinks because he was a great character, talking about faith and praying in a positive way.
- Mystique (Rebecca Romijn) is a beautiful woman, but it is borderline pornographic to depict her in a body suit (or whatever it is) the way they have done in all the movies.
- Jean Grey returns as the Dark Phoenix but is really just kind of creepy in a Carrie-like way throughout the movie.
- At least two times, a young woman is very derisively called an offensive curse word for no good reason by male characters which I found strongly objectionable.
- One evil male character gruesomely murders a defenseless woman in cold blood that is disturbing.
- There are several mutant women who are depicted in immodest and unfeminine ways—think Rocky Horror Picture Show if that gives you an idea (ugh).
Â
Because of the offensive language used toward women and the improper depiction of women, I wouldn’t recommend that parents let any children under 17 watch this movie.

How disappointing!
Movie makers can do so much to make movies truly entertaining and intelligent, as with the first and second X-Men. God bless those directors.
