Abound Screensaver with 100 moving balls

My friend at work, Jonathan, just got a new computer, with a dual-core processor, large flat panel monitor, and a good video card, and he ran my Abound Screensaver, maxing out the number of active balls at 100 with no drop in frame rate!

I have never seen a computer that could handle that many balls [...]

My Man

Devin Shawn Rose changed my tire today. He left work and drove to the HEB where the poor Volvo was parked, with its poor sad tire. He sweated in the midday sun, on the blistering blacktop of the parking lot. He patiently manipulated the foreign car parts on my wheel, expertly removing [...]

4o

Jesus fasted and prayed for 40 days before beginning his ministry. The Israelites wandered for 40 years in the desert. Katie and Devin will wed in 40 days. Just 40.

We’ve entered our Lent, our desert, in which we will prepare for the Sacrament of Holy Matrimony with prayer and fasting. [...]

Moving In

My dear mother is en route from St. Louis, Missouri to Austin right now! She is driving her Honda CRV and two very upset cats (Merry and Pippin) along IH-35, with all of her furniture and things already moved into her house down here.

She’s been longing to move back home for long years, and [...]

10 Princesses

“…the years passed by and now they had 10 daughters…”
–modified from Paula Cole’s “I Don’t Want To Wait” where she says “the years passed by and now they had granddaughters”

I modified the lyrics above because the song jumps too quickly from this couple only having two children to them having grandchildren, and it has led [...]

Superstition?

I had an interesting phone exchange yesterday. I was visiting with an acquaintance about my current homemaking in the future Rose residence here on Turtleback Lane, and she mentioned that she subscribes to principles of fung shui in her home decorating, because of the way that “they promote positive energy in a room.”

Energy? [...]

“Martha Martha…”

“…you are busy about so many things–only one matters.” Clearly, Jesus had an inkling about wedding planning in the 21st century, when he offered that gentle chiding to Martha. Because, I’ve been tempted to Martha-ish behavior this week.

I have begun work again on my Real Time Strategy (RTS) game, Crescendo!

This game is one I am programming myself and plan to sell one day through my website. You can view all posts in the Technical category link found on the left side of the screen if you missed exciting Crescendo development posts [...]

God’s Gift to Men :)

I read this quote today in “Woman’s Dignity and Vocation” by Father Marcial Maciel, LC. He attributes it to E. Mounier: “Woman is the richest reserve of humanity.”

Father Maciel then goes on to say, “In other words, woman has the mission of humanizing the life she is called to transmit and protect, making [...]

Roadside Catholic Social Doctrine

This morning, I bought the most beautiful bunch of basil. Its heady fragrance filled my car, and I schemed about this evening’s meal as I drove it home to my refrigerator. With my meal ingredients list including olive oil, fresh tomatoes, chicken, and basil, I know we’ll eat well tonight.

God Answers Prayers

Do you ever pray for something and, then, forget about it, only to realize later that your prayer was answered? I do that all the time, and, when I finally realize that my prayer has been answered, I’m blown away that Our Lord has not already zapped me with a lightning bolt for my [...]

Whirlwind

Blessed be God! Katie and I have been doing a ton of things and much is going on in every sphere of our lives right now.

Here are some things from the last week alone:
1. Picked out and bought our wedding rings (simple gold bands)
2. Bought a washing machine and dryer and installed it
3. Painted [...]

Blog Frequency Update

(Note that Devin made this post from Katie’s computer, thus it says Katie as the author incorrectly)
I have not been posting as frequently as I had been, and neither has Katie, but that will probably change over the next few months, as we get settled into an “engaged” routine and find a good balance between [...]

The Foxtrot

(Note that Devin made this post from Katie’s computer, thus it says Katie as the author incorrectly)
Well, Katie and I had planned for it to be a secret, but neither one of us is too good at holding big surprises in, so a week or two ago we decided to tell our friends and family [...]

Paint

Whew!

Katie and I painted all weekend, and we got about half of our Great Room (aka the living room) painted a lovely orange color. We also pulled off all the goofy 80s wood off of the other Great Room big wall, and I patched a hole in the dry wall and spackled the larger [...]

Civilization of Love

Well, it’s official, the future Rose residence has been blessed. Fr. Oliver Weerakody (veer-ah-kodee) christened our little house on Wednesday evening, dousing the thresholds of our entryways in Holy Water. He followed Devin and me from room to room, sprinkling Holy Water and calling upon the angels to make this place holy. [...]

Katie and I had a blessed visit to Deming, New Mexico this past weekend. Here are the pictures that I took from it–hopefully Katie and I will have time to comment more on our trip in a future post!
