I have begun work again on my Real Time Strategy (RTS) game, Crescendo!
Â
This game is one I am programming myself and plan to sell one day through my website. You can view all posts in the Technical category link found on the left side of the screen if you missed exciting Crescendo development posts from the past. ![]()

I have intended to work on Crescendo over the past several months, but usually never got around to it. There was usually something more important or more fun to be doing, whether hanging out with roommates playing Nintendo, or spending time with Katie, or working on our future home together.
So I have come up with a new strategy–wake up at 3:30 AM a few mornings per week (maybe every morning at some point?) and work on my game for a few hours before going to morning Mass with Katie. I have done this twice now this week and made good progress on the game again, so I am feeling motivated to continue. I realize with myself that if I don’t make time for something, it just doesn’t happen, and since I’m not going to suddenly become less busy when Katie and I are married (please God) than I am now, there is no time like the present to find time to work on this project.
Â
Ultimately, making this game has three goals:
1. Make money to provide for me and Katie and our future family
2. Have fun programming a game where I can use my imagination and be creative
3. Increase my software development expertise
Â
Today I finished Phase 2 of the game, which included these tasks:
Phase 2: Create some Nature objects and implement their behavior
1. Make The Root create Acorns and Squirrels
2. Implement simple object movement
3. Hard code some Squirrel behavior to get an acorn and plant it (no user input)
4. Nature Kingdom grows of its own accord (auto-mode)

Can you believe this amazing man? He’s establishing a habit of awakening at 3:30a, which in my opinion is an inhuman hour to do anything but sleep. And, Dev’s offering this sacrifice as a gift for our family, please God, to be a great provider. I am so blessed by Our Lord, to receive Devin’s generosity.
Hey Devin. I assume you plan on releasing the game as PC-based, but you may be interested in this: http://mobilitytoday.com/news/006805/game_design
Thanks for the information, Adam! That sounds very interesting, as consoles have been closed to indie game developers since their inception.
