“…you are busy about so many things–only one matters.” Clearly, Jesus had an inkling about wedding planning in the 21st century, when he offered that gentle chiding to Martha. Because, I’ve been tempted to Martha-ish behavior this week.
 
By the grace of God, through the intercession of Our Lady of Cana, the preparation process for our wedding (in only 7 weeks!) has been pure and simple fun. I have delegated tons of the details to my 7 siblings and have been able to remain focused on becoming one with Devin. But, I began to lose that serenity during the past weeks, as timely decisions needed to be made, and was tempted to take control of details.
 
I am blessed, however, with a wonderfully wise and gentle future husband, who helped me to see yesterday that, truly, only one thing is important right now, namely preparing my heart, body, mind, and spirit to become one with Devin. (Will you please share that St. Jean Frances quote, Dev?) The enemy would try to divert my attention from this glorious gift, so that I become anxious. There are many opportunities to become anxious with wedding prepations. But, if I can remain serene and focused on Devin, in Christ, then I won’t miss the amazing joys of this time.
 
So, on this feast of St. Jean Frances de Chantal, holy mother and consecrated, I recommit to a hands-off wedding planning style. The flowers don’t really matter. The songs don’t really matter. The ribbon for the bows on the little bags filled with welcome gifts for our guests…don’t really matter. Only one thing matters. St. Jean Frances de Chantal, pray for us. Our Lady of Cana, pray for us. YKC!
