I’ve been reading Dante’s “Divine Comedy” since Ash Wednesday 2006 and am nearly done! It’s so beautiful, deeply filled with theological insight and poetic beauty, and I’ve come to understand how it could be referred to as the “fifth Gospel”. I must humbly admit that, according to my planned schedule, I was supposed to have finished the book months ago–read the Inferno during Lent, then wrap up the Easter season with the Purgatorio and Paradiso. But, I am no such scholar and have kept my patient future husband waiting, as I dawdle through the final 10 cantos. But, I’m nearly done!
Â
Okay, here are a few of my favorite quotes from the past week’s reading, Paradiso XIX and XX:
Â
“Now who are you to set yourself up to judge of matters a thousand miles away with eyes that can hardly see nine inches?” (just souls challenge Dante, who is questioning the judgment of God)
Â
“The kingdom of heaven suffers violence from warm love and from living hope and the violent take it by force; not in the manner in which man overcomes man, but conquering because they wish to be conquered and, conquered, conquer with its own benignity.” (referencing Matt 11:12)
Â
“And you, mortals, hold yourselves back from giving judgement; for we, who see God, do not yet know who all the elect are; and this deficiency is sweet to us because in this good our own good is refined and we want whatever is God’s will.” (the just speak about the Final Judgement)

Hello Kate and Devin. Congratulations (rather belated I suspect) on your engagement. I do not have time to read blogs much but dropped in on Devin today to learn you two will marry soon! HOW AWESOME! I first “met” Devin almost 2 years ago and I don’t think there was a diamond ring in the offing at that time. Our family has a rosary intention book where we have a section that we have dedicated to engaged couples and their upcoming weddings. I will be sure to add the two of you to our book. In this way, every time we pray the rosary your future marriage will be prayed for. I hope that a few wedding photos will be posted after the big day. God Bless you both and I hope you will be blessed with a dozen little “roses” and will enjoy an ever growing bouquet around your Sunday Brunch table.

Thank you, Christi! Your prayers are treasured greatly, and we will definitely post pictures from the wedding, please God.
You remember correctly that two years ago when we “met” there were no diamond rings nor did we even know each other’s name! But God, who is rich in mercy and who can move quickly, brought me and Katie into first contact just 1 year ago, and now we are getting married in 3 weeks.
I hope God gives us many blessed children as He has given your family!
