Apologies for not keeping you updated on me and Katie as we prepare for marriage–as you already know if you are married and can imagine if you are not, it’s been busy. :)

Last night, my best man, Robert Berger, threw me a bachelor party! We had a blast, grilling steaks and ribs, playing several hours of volleyball (featuring Nathan’s Chinese-style serves, Brad’s unexpected spikes, a few kick-digs from me, and surprisingly excellent team play from all the guys). My dad came and several good friends from out of town.

After washing off (most of) the sand and sweat, we went back to Gerardo’s house for 10-man no limit, Texas hold ‘em poker. Most of us were pretty inexperienced players, but all caught on quick. We played for a good 3 hours before Robert finally won, beating out Gerardo and me, who got 2nd and 3rd. I would have done much worse but by Providence was given excellent hands the entire night.

Robert very thoughtfully bought cigars for us to smoke, with the clever name “Duke of Devon”, but at almost 2 am, I was past my bedtime and had to take a raincheck on them. Richard only somewhat jokingly suggested we will hopefully smoke them in the near future when Katie and I conceive our first child! (Please God, yes!)

Then this morning, my good friends woke up and helped me move my big stuff over to me and Katie’s future home, that way Katie and I can come home together for the first time after our wedding and honeymoon without having to worry about moving more big stuff.

Katie has continued her graciously dedicated work on our home and on our wedding, taking care of so much even while working part-time for the Diocese. Even now, as our life together is about to begin, I know that she will be the greatest blessing of my life next to my salvation in Christ. And I know that, in some sense, my salvation and hers are bound together in Christ’s love.

Say a short prayer for us when you read this, for the grace to resist the evil one and receive the peace of our Lord. May our Father bless you richly!
