Katie and I both have liked bees since we were children. My retired next door neighbor, now recently passed away, Moon Mullen, kept bees in his backyard, and one time he took me to his apiary where he had about 8 hives, and he showed me how to smoke them, inspect frames, etc. That was in high school, and I wanted to get my own hive, but they cost some money, and I knew I would go off to college before too long, so I never got a hive of my own.

Well, years later, Katie and I meet and get married only to discover that she, too, has always liked bees and wanted to have a hive of her own. She wants to make beeswax candles, soaps, creams, and she loves to eat honey and cook with it.

So that was the genesis of the idea; it really helps that both of us want to do it and are interested in bees. They are quite fascinating when you learn about all their complex behaviors, one of God’s most intriguing creatures in my opinion.

We will continue to make videos and show them, perhaps even of our big INSPECTION tomorrow where we find out if the queen is released from her cage, alive, or dead!
