Would the Real Devin Rose Please Stand Up

Well, it turns out that people named Devin Rose in this world are, at least with two data points collected, pretty clever and cool.

Why? Well, I changed my email address from an old one to my current gmail one with the Texas Alliance for Life (TAL), but TAL entered the address slightly incorrectly into their system, omitting the crucial ‘s’, my middle initial, from the address, resulting in another Devin Rose getting the email.

Now, some other person who is not as cool as apparently all Devin Rose’s are, would have thought, “weird email”, deleted it, and moved on with their life. But not Devin Rose–I mean, not me, but the other one–who tracked me down through this blog, guessed that I was the Devin Rose that TAL intended to email, and notified me very cleverly of the error.

How’s that for a good Samaritan?

So, I hope that whoever shares your name out there in the world is as sharp and thoughtful as Devin Rose seems to be. And Devin, if you’re reading this, rock on!

I had something very similar happen to me recently. A long time old friend Clarissa E. was trying to contact me by email and reached another former Clarissa Garcia (who I happen to know!!). The other Clarissa Garcia gave Clarissa E. my email address. How crazy!!!

Apparently there is a term for that which I came across in a news article last week.
“Googlegänger: A person who shares your name– You find your googleganger by self-googling. The term comes from combining ‘Google’ with the German expression, ‘Doppelgänger’.”
But I don’t think it’s been added in Merriam-Webster yet.

Actually, I’ve stumbled upon this other Devin Rose before. When I was just getting to know my Devin, I Googled the name, “Devin Rose” and discovered the identity of this other Mr. Rose. Have you ever Googled your own name? Try it some time.

I tried it, expecting to see my sister-in-law, also Amy Seltzer, who has a website. I found info from my Amazon wish list appears first. Then a woman in New York getting married (not me). Then a lawyer in New Orleans (certainly not me), and then my sister-in-law (although for her work at a previous job, not for her current stuff). Finally, a “vocalist and movement performer” (I’m not even sure what that means).

  5. Hi Devin – Trying to find your email but not having much luck. Anyway, would you be interested in joining the newly formed Association of Catholic Computer Programmers? It is what it says, which would seem to match what you’re about. http://accp.ning.com/
