Et Tu Biden? Then Fall Coherent Thought

After the Sen. Pelosi embarrassment on Meet the Press, you would think that Sen. Biden would have figured out a better way to explain how he says he is Catholic and pro-abortion, yet his answer to the exact same question “When does life begin” makes my head hurt with its incoherence.

All the Democrats I know are very pro-science, yet when science says that life begins at conception, all of sudden the question of when life begins is answered by “It’s a matter of my private faith”.  No it isn’t.  And guess what, Sen. Biden?  Both your Catholic faith’s teachings and science agree that life begins at conception, and so morally, killing that life is murdering a human being.

If you don’t believe that, then you need to both give up your Catholic faith and join a church that endorses your erroneous views as well as give up your claims on believing in science, ’cause this is 7th grade life science stuff.

I want a Vice President who can think coherently and not check her brain and her faith at the White House door.

When I homeschooled a few years ago, I used a secular science book for my sixth grader. The Harcourt book said clearly something which I have repeated many times since: “You began life as a single cell.”

If the secular science books can admit the obvious scientific fact, why not Ms. Pelosi?

Oops, meant to say “…why not Mr. Biden?” but really I guess it’s the same thing, eh??

  3. CD-Host says:

I don’t think you are accurately covering VP Biden or Representative Pelosi’s positions. Neither addressed the issue of when biological life is created. Rather what they do is agree with Aquinas that ensoulment is a 2 step process

The sensitive soul is created by fertilization but the intellectual soul happens much later (about 2 months). Sex merely creates a human like animal, actual humanity requires a divine miracle. To argue that sex produces souls Aquinas considers to be traducianism, a heresy.

I answer that, It is impossible for an active power existing in matter to extend its action to the production of an immaterial effect. Now it is manifest that the intellectual principle in man transcends matter; for it has an operation in which the body takes no part whatever. It is therefore impossible for the seminal power to produce the intellectual principle.

Again, the seminal power acts by virtue of the soul of the begetter according as the soul of the begetter is the act of the body, making use of the body in its operation. Now the body has nothing whatever to do in the operation of the intellect. Therefore the power of the intellectual principle, as intellectual, cannot reach the semen. Hence the Philosopher says (De Gener. Animal. ii, 3): “It follows that the intellect alone comes from without.”

Again, since the intellectual soul has an operation independent of the body, it is subsistent, as proved above (Question 75, Article 2): therefore to be and to be made are proper to it. Moreover, since it is an immaterial substance it cannot be caused through generation, but only through creation by God. Therefore to hold that the intellectual soul is caused by the begetter, is nothing else than to hold the soul to be non-subsistent and consequently to perish with the body. It is therefore heretical to say that the intellectual soul is transmitted with the semen. (Summa I.118.2.0)

Even the Catholic encyclopedia holds that, “none of the Fathers maintained Traducianism — the parental generation of the soul — as a certainty”. Pelosi was absolutely correct in her reading of the fathers. And Biden was taking his queue from her theological argument.

Now I understand that you are going to hold that reading the church fathers and coming to a conclusion opposite the magisterium on a matter of faith and morals, is still forbidden regardless of how much evidence there is. But lets be clear this is not a question of ignorance at all. Rather Pelosi and Biden are notable spokespeople who hold that the Church is misrepresenting the deposit of faith.
