Katie and I saw this bumper sticker on a car on my way into work yesterday. Paraphrasing Charles Babbage, I am not able to rightly comprehend the kind of confusion of ideas that could provoke a person to create such a bumper sticker.
Jesus did not come to give his life for the eternal salvation of all men but rather to organize the community–though not recorded in the Scriptures, it seems plausible that he hosted a raffle and then a bake sale to stop Wal-Mart from moving into the old abandoned warehouse in the kitschy neighborhood.
Clearly the bumper sticker reader is to connect Obama, the much-ballyhooed community organizer, with Jesus whom we are now told was a community organizer.
Meanwhile Pontius Pilate, who crucified Jesus, was a governor: Connect this in your mind with other evil governors: Gov. Sarah Palin, Gov. Rick Perry of Texas, Former Gov. and now President George Bush–yes! You now understand why our nation needs Barack Obama.
Do we remember this one from the Kentucky primary days? The traditional formulation has been Faith, Hope, and Love, the three theological virtues, but we now have Change and Obama substituted for Love. God is Love, but so is Obama and the Change he wants to bring.
He says that his faith tells him that praying is worthless without doing the Lord’s work. The Lord’s work includes:
- Ending all restrictions on abortion from conception to birth
- Taxpayer funding of clone and kill and embryo-destroying research
- Undermining true marriage by redefining it to include same-sex people
- Making taxpayers give hundreds of millions of dollars to promote abortion, contraception, and sterilization around the world again via the UNFPA (Pres. Bush ended this 6 years ago)
- And many more
If this is the Lord’s work then I don’t know who the Lord is. Certainly He is quite different from the Holy Trinity that I believe in.
Sen. Obama has chosen a Catholic as his V.P. nominee; he has many Catholics on his staff to convince us that we should vote for him. In one month, you will have to decide who to vote for. If you haven’t seen it already, this video is stirring:

Gee, I wish I had known he was such a holy man before I voted yesterday.
Has early voting started in your state? Go vote as soon as you can – you never know what could happen on election day.
“…if by a liberal they mean someone who looks ahead and not behind, someone who welcomes new ideas without rigid reactions, someone who cares about the welfare of the people – their health, their housing, their schools, their jobs, their civil rights, their civil liberties..if that is what they mean by a “liberal” then I am proud to be a liberal.”
JFK said that pretty well. Unfortunately, the democratic party, which used to embody noble ideals, now rigidly supports abortion rights. This video makes a very good point. I’ll be voting for McCain/Palin.
