Mass Behavior

Katie and I have been very pleased with how the boys have behaved during Mass; we have gone to 3 or 4 daily Masses and today went to Spanish Sunday Mass, which was at 7:30 am and lasted about an hour an twenty minutes.

We camp out in the chairs and handicapped area just in front of the “quiet” room (aka cry room), but so far we have not yet had to take the boys into the quiet room because they have not been loud or crying at all!

They play quietly on the floor with their toy for a while, want to be held for a while, get hungry and are fed a bottle, then we pick them up to receive our Lord in the Eucharist and the boys happily receive their blessing from the priest.

I am sure we will have some “times” during Mass in coming days/weeks/months/years, but at least here at the beginning we have had merciful harmony.

From the videos, they look like very content and calm babies. Mine would never sit still on a blanket or playing on the floor with a toy for that long, quietly no less! I guess with the logistics of caring for two, it’s nice that they both have pleasant dispositions (or appear to anyway!). The only time my Steven Joseph (turned 1 yesterday) is quiet and still at mass is when he is asleep, LOL!

I hope they’re feeling better and that you guys are enjoying these special first weeks together! God bless and Merry Christmas!

We did the same thing when we went to St. Williams – camp out in front of the cry room just in case, trying to hopefully start them inside the big church. It seemed to work out really well.

We eventually needed to start bringing Jesus books or markers/coloring books (by the way, Color Wonder is a great invention – no mess markers only work with the coloring book).

Some of the signs in that cry room are a little intimidating. For instance, I remember one sign says that if you want to breast feed, the mother has to go to a separate room in the back of the church. That seemed a bit silly to me when it’s a cry room (AKA made for babies).
