Life has been very full lately, so I have barely had time to keep track of the “stimulus” bill, which I think has now sailed through Congress and only awaits Pres. Obama’s return from wherever to sign it.
Sheila (along with the Heritage foundation) has been following it for me, and what I see is disheartening, with the bill being over 1,000 pages long:
And nobody in Congress who voted in the stimulus plan was able to read it through.
In addition to being the single most expensive bill ever proposed, this measure calls for a massive expansion of the federal government’s reach into the day-to-day life of virtually every citizen, business and civic organization in the nation.
both the President and the leaders of the House and Senate have violated their solemn promises that the bill would be available for several days of public review prior to voting, so that the American people might have a chance to learn what is in the bill and to make their views known to their elected officials.
I recall Pres. Obama saying that all bills would be available for the public to view 48 hours in advance: Promise broken. He also promised to sign FOCA into law in his very first action: Promise broken (in this case, thankfully). He stunned crowds into awe during the election with his words on how he would solve everything, but now I just hear backpedaling and sandbagging (a term used at my work when someone grossly overestimates a problem or how long it will take them to fix it so that they look good if they solve it sooner).
