My Thoughts on a New Car

A few of you have suggested that Devin and I now purchase a minivan, joining the fleet of young Catholic families we know.  But, I confess that I have never wanted to drive a minivan.  I’ve always been more of a Suburban girl myself.  I grew up in a family that drove all manner of clunky Suburbans; we took the Suburban to the lake and down to Mexico to camp on the beach and to San Diego and camping in the mountains, and the ‘Burb become something of an icon for me.

So, with that in mind, I’d like to boldly hint to Devin here about the vehicle I would like for our growing family.  Check this out.  Or, if that’s a little out of our price range, I might settle for this, sweetheart.  After all, we are preparing to leave for our farm in the years ahead and will need a vehicle that can haul a half-ton.  Really.

Hee hee.

this made me laugh!!!!! why are we batesons so traumatized by mini-vans? you know how i feel about SUV’s!!!!!! Honda Pilot all the way. Have fun in your car hunt.

I, too, thought I’d never want a minivan. Until I test drove one. I love my Grand Caravan, and always keep my eye on the Honda Odyssey (but they just won’t include stow and go seats!) Chris is excited about the new Volkswagon, and says if they put their new 40+mpg diesel in one, he’s getting one.

However, if you do opt for the Suburban, you would have enough room to go ahead with adopting the girls… ;-)

We have a Suburban (we have to fit eight into a vehicle) and love it. We also have a truck that we use mainly for the farm but we use the Suburban as well. It can handle a lot. Fortunately we got a great used one because we could never afford a new one!

By the way, we will be praying for you during your pregnancy.

we totally love our suburban!! and being in a similar predicament (twins and a baby all under 2 at one point) …it’s all about the ‘trunk’ space in the back for the kid cargo! :)

Go for the 3 quarter ton, Devin… At that price, what’s another 1k? :)
