Today is the feast of St. Francis of Assisi, trumped by the celebration of Our Lord’s Resurrection on Sunday, but still quietly celebrated in the Rose household. Because, we love St. Francis. And, St. Claire. And, all things having to do with Assisi.
Our connection to the dear saints from Assisi? Well, our wedding reception was celebrated at St. Claire’s Winery in Deming, NM, and we honeymooned in Assisi, so we feel like we’re party of the Franciscan family. Nine days we enjoyed in the quiet village which feels like heaven on earth.
Nine days of eating very well,
and meeting lovely Franciscans,
and looking for St. Francis in olive groves. Because, we were sure we’d find him if we looked closely enough.
Dear St. Francis and St. Claire, we love you and wish we could live with you in Assisi every day.
Sigh…how I long for the peace I felt while begin there, especially now. St. Francis, please pray for me.
It is such a beautiful place, a true heaven on earth (if such a thing exists).
