She arrived this morning, exhausted, crying, and sick. She was disoriented and very angry. She screamed for nearly two hours straight, until she decided she wanted me to hold her and hasn’t left my side since then. Oh, my dear Lord, we are walking on water.
She has already begun calling me “Mama” and now does not want to let me out of her sight. She seems so deeply needy.
I can’t wait to see her in six months, when she is happy and clean and has gained some weight. We will look back at today and marvel that that was our daughter, this girl who we now love so deeply and whose smile lights up our hearts.
But, for today, we are doing our best to just hold on and remind ourselves that she will sleep eventually and that her crying will eventually stop.
Pray for us, please. Blessed Mother, we entrust ourselves to your intercession.

Katie, My prayers are with you and I will try and drop a request by Madonna House. Elena
God love you all! You’ve been so often in my prayers. I’m so happy for all of you.
Screaming is good. The last little one we added was silent and scared for days. Never made a sound no matter what. Now 6 yrs later, very bonded, very happy in her forever family, she never stops talking or smiling
Will be praying for your whole family as you readjust.
Prayers offered for you.
Katie,
I am sending prayers your way this very moment, for Our Lady’s to envelop you all in her mantle. This dear baby girl is exactly where the good Lord wants her to be, and His love with bolster her through you and enliven her again. We love you!

Remember, O most gracious Virgin Mary, that never was it known that anyone who fled to thy protection, implored thy help, or sought thy intercession was left unaided. Inspired by this confidence, we fly unto thee, O Virgin of Virgins, our mother. To thee do we come, before thee we stand, sinful and sorrowful. O Mother of the Word Incarnate, despise not our petitions, but in thy mercy, hear and answer them.
God be with you.
Just keep your eyes on Jesus as you walk on the water in this storm. You and Devin and your family are in my prayers.
heading to adoration and will pray… oh how dear, you are in my prayers as you walk ahead in faith
We will pray for you the age old prayer of all new mothers – “that she will sleep eventually and that her crying will eventually stop.” Amen. And on the days when you forget what sleep is like, take comfort and humor in the verse that always makes me chuckle when read from the perspective of a mother: 1 Corn 15:51 “We shall not all sleep; but we shall all be changed.”
Hang in there!
prayers for you all — may the Holy Family provide you special graces in this time of adjustment.
Thank you for your prayers–God has been answering.
Miss K, whom we are going to nickname Adele (uh-DELL), had a very rough day and cried a lot and asked for her mama. She was inconsolable for hours but miraculously began taking to Katie and started calling her “mama” and then could only be consoled when Katie was holding her or right with her. So it was a great grace that she could be consoled and so quickly latched onto Katie.
We are doing okay, quite frazzled, especially Katie who has been holding/comforting Adele non-stop for hours and hours. Katie has been a champion and we know it is by Christ’s grace through your prayers for us. Adele doesn’t seem to have had any father/male figure in her life, so she is puzzled and unsure about me–I’m giving her space to let her know that she is safe and I will not harm her.
Adele laughed and smiled a few times this evening, which was great to see, a bit of normalcy amidst a lot of hysterics.
Christ bless you! Thank you again for your prayers and encouragement.
We are all praying for you here in our house. She will feel more secure day by day. Katie, you are right…in 6 months, you will be amazed. God bless you all and I hope you get a few winks of sleep. You may all end up in the same bed but if you get a little sleep it could be worth it! God bless.
She is a very blessed little girl. I never thought I would want a daughter after having the two boys, but my sweet Sophia’s smile and hugs are a delight that only a little girl can give. I am so glad she took to you and hope the
constant need will bless you. Love and prayers from the quinonez family!!!
Oh, I am praying for you all and for little Adele in this time of adjustment. You are wonderful, faithful, prayerful people who trust in the Lord and who love deeply. I can’t wait to hear of the positive changes in this little girl over the weeks and months. And Katie, as one pregnant woman to another, I will pray especially for your strength at this time.
Oh, the agony. I remember going through that almost exactly. I agree with what another poster said, the screaming is good…while this is certaintly hard on you guys it is even worse for her, and if she can express her feelings in anyway that is a lot better than just shutting down. We’re praying for you guys! I have buckets of advice, so if you want to bounce anything of someone who has been there and done that just let me know. We’ll have Rediet pray for Adele…she knows what it is to have a broken toddler heart and feel all alone in the world.
Amy and I are praying for your family too. God bless all of you!
Please let us know if you need anything! I just boxed up a tub of girl’s clothes today (size 24 months and 2T) that Reese has grown out of. Let me know if that would be of any use to you. God bless you for being so open to this little girl! We will be praying for you.
Definitely will be sending up some extra prayers!!!
Sending lots of prayers for all of you!!
Thank you again for your prayers friends.
Adele slept through the night last night! Katie went into her room and held her for a while then laid her on the bed and held her hand while she also held her doll, and *poof* she was out and didn’t wake up all night. Deo Gratias.
I’m taking off from work all day today, and we plan to really take things easy, quiet, peaceful, etc.
What a sweet little baby girl! How long was she separated from her brothers? I’m just curious if she realizes they are her brothers. I’m so glad they have been reunited. It was meant to be – she’s right where she’s supposed to be. I’m so thrilled for all of you, and I will continue to keep you all in my prayers.
Hi Francie,
She has been separated from her brothers for their entire lives, and they only had visited with each other a few times over the past 2 years. Thank you for your kind words and prayers!
