Come Downstairs and Say Hello

Love this (7 year-old) song by Guster:

To tell you the truth I’ve said it before tomorrow I start in a new direction
I know I’ve been half asleep I’m never doing that again
I look straight at what’s coming ahead and soon it’s gonna change in a new direction
Every night as I’m falling asleep these words repeated in my head

Voices calling from a yellow road
To come downstairs and say hello
Don’t be shy just say hello

This live recording was appropriately performed here in Austin:

I’m a sucker for songs like this that have two distinct parts: the first a slow intro, building up to the second, faster, dramatic part. U2′s Zooropa and Fez-being born are other examples of it.

    Hi Devin,
This kind of arrangement is also true in Two Step by the Dave Matthews Band – one of our favorite songs! We used to listen to DMB a lot in the late 80s and early 90s as he played in very small venues around VA back then. After about the mid 90s though, we feel like his music changed, and we watched him sell out – would no longer play at the small places that brought him up so-to-speak and were really in line with the image he portrayed – would only play at huge arena type venues. So sad.
On a happier note – the Bodeans set up a lot of their songs like this too!

Very cool. I’ve enjoyed many of DMB’s songs, and I know I’ve heard the Bodeans before, but I’ll have to check them out and listen more.
