An Offer Made

land1We made an offer on ten acres and a house near Austin!

The land is beautiful: six acres of pasture near the road, with some decent grass there, then four acres of brush, a big pond, and trees.

The house is not beautiful, but it can be made so, given enough time and work. The original house was small, twelve hundred square feet, built thirty years ago, and about ten years ago a one thousand square foot addition was added.

Problem is, the original part has a log cabin look, with southern pine covering walls, ceilings, and cabinets. The newer part is normal construction: dry wall, etc. So it is like two separate houses mashed together. Also, it smells heavily of cigarette smoke, which means all the wood walls have to be sanded, primed, and painted (or sealed/stained), the carpet must be removed, and the rest of the walls primed and painted.

We have not yet found land that has as much potential as this land does. We can already see a cow or two in the pasture, a flock of sheep, chickens, beehives, and more. The pond needs to be re-dug, re-configured, and re-sealed with clay. But the soil profile of the place is sandy loam on the top three feet, giving way to a layer of clay that is five feet deep at least. So we can use the clay on the property to seal the pond.

An offer is an offer, nothing more. It may fall through for any number of reasons, on their side or ours. But we are hopeful that, God willing, it will work out. Say a prayer for us!

Oh my goodness. I hope this works out for you all so that we can drive our pop-up cross country to visit you! (Selfish, I know.)

(fyi, my recaptcha code is Dayerag Does….I think that would be a good name for a band… or a book where the main character’s name is Dayerag. Never underestimate the power of alliteration. Who says spam blockers are always bad and annoying? :) )

      Kathryn,

Thanks a ton! We’d love to have y’all visit. The land is really quite lovely and if we do get to buy it, I will post many more pictures and do a video tour of it as well.

The ReCaptcha! Well, it doesn’t seem to be reducing this blog’s cpu usage on the shared server, so I might be able to remove the recaptcha again. But I’m glad at least it added a little variety to your commenting. :)

      So excited for y’all!

That’s so exciting! That land is really beautiful, you couldn’t ask for a better homestead. I confess I can’t help but feel a little jealous! Vices aside, we’re praying that y’all will be our neighbors here!

wow, Devin! Sounds exciting..hope it works out for you guys…if its supposed to that is ;)

  6. Kevin Heldt says:

Congrats Devin! We have a “two different-era houses mashed together” house here and it’s kinda fun.

Maybe we can visit you someday too. Though we’ll wait until you get that cigarette smoke smell taken care of. ;)

  7. Christina says:

Though the house sounds like it needs work indeed, you could really have a lot of fun re-designing it. Make it liveable at first, then enjoy the process of a design challenge! Almost like a restoration project. Praying God’s will be done!

    • Devin Rose says:

Christina that is exactly what Katie looks forward to doing. We’ll take the long approach and do things bit by bit, time and money permitting. Thank you for your prayers!

  8. Leila says:

I am so excited for you! It’s beautiful! Praying!

  9. Looks like 2013 is shaping up to be the year of the landed :)
    Praise God for His providence!

    • Devin Rose says:

Casey, thank you my friend. I do hope to become a member of the “landed gentry.” Hhaha! Just joking.

Seriously though, let’s get together so we can catch up. I’d love to hear of y’all’s holiday travels and such.

I know you’ve been looking for quite a long time, so I’m adding my prayers that you’ll get the property if it’s in God’s will!
