I just read about this, and it’s pretty disgusting. Zidane is a soccer player on the French team which just finished 2nd in the World Cup.

Zidane lost all my respect in the final game when he head-butted an Italian player in the chest in extra time and got red-carded. It was a low-class move that reflects poorly on his team and his entire country.

If you want to brawl people, there are other sports to play where your opponents are prepared to fight you back, but attacking someone unexpectedly like that is cowardly. He should be ashamed of himself. And Adidas and the journalists who voted for him to win this award should be ashamed of themselves, too.

For a long time I have dissed the biathalon event of the winter Olympics.

The biathalon is where men combine cross-country skiing with marksmanship, and the juxtaposition of these two sports always struck me as odd, but today Gerardo and I watched the finals of the biathalon, and it was awesome!

It came down to the very end, where the “legend” was coming from behind against a French competitor, and the Frenchman missed more shots than the legend did on the last shooting round, causing him to take some penalty laps that resulted in the two being neck-and-neck.

There was only a few kilometers left for them to ski, and it was known that the Frenchman was a better cross-country sprinter than the legend was. They both came together into the stadium, and the legend was barely ahead. On the last turn, the Frenchman stumbled a bit, and it looked like the legend might hold him off, but then the Frenchie poured it on in the last fifty meters and won.

The fact that they can shoot their rifles so accurately in spite of panting for breath from skiing for miles is impressive, and so I will no longer diss the biathalon.

I just upgraded the blog software to Wordpress 1.5.3 due to a security fix. But then when I clicked on the comment boxes or on a post title, I got an error saying 404 page not found. The whole upgrading process is very opaque to me, even as a computer programmer, so I had no clue what was going wrong. Fortunately, I discovered this post on the Wordpress support forum indicating that the htaccess file could be missing. Once I uploaded that file from my own computer (I had saved off all the blog files before upgrading) permalinks and comments worked again!

This is one of my favorite lines from the Star Wars movies, said by the emperor.

Move over Yahoo Maps and Mapquest - Google Maps has you beat. Check it out here. You can easily scrolls side to side by just dragging the map around. Also, you can click on Satellite to get a real image. See a Satellite image of where Devin and I live. The directions aren’t bad either, but I have to dock them some points for sending you around loop 410 when driving from Laredo to Austin, usually that’s slower.

My roommate, the G, also known as gcubed (as in, g to the third power), has been given “ops” and can post on St. Joseph’s Vanguard. Get ready!

I have used my computer-hacking skills, second only to my bo-staff skills, to be able to post on this blog. That’s right, now you have double trouble with Devin and Gerardo blogging prowess. Hopefully, my affair with the blog will last longer than my previous attempt.
.
Anyway, I’m glad to be here and thank Devin for the opportunity. For his graciousness, I will reduce his rent this month by $2.

I recently picked up a CD by Donna Lewis at Half Price Books. You can read more about Donna Lewis’ songs on my personal site. Much to my surprise, I went into Home Depot this weekend and did a double take when I heard a song start playing, “Without Love”. I like the song a lot, but it is not her most popular one, nor is it a very “Home Depot-ish” kind of song, in my opinion.
.
Along a similar vein, I always enjoy the songs they play at the local Fire Bowl Cafe. They usually have quite a few good 80s songs that I like.
